Sandals Montego BaySandals Montego Bay was the very first Sandals resort, opening in 1981.  This resort is still among the most popular Sandals resorts, and I was fortunate enough to be able to visit it for myself last month.  It is just a beautiful resort and should be on everyone’s list to visit.

Sandals Montego Bay offers 272 rooms on 26 acres.  Just a few years ago, this resort went through a multi-million-dollar renovation including a new lobby and main bar, new swim-up suites, new over-the-water wedding chapel, a new Latitudes overwater bar and three new restaurants!  So if you’re thinking this resort is old, you couldn’t be further from the truth!  This resort offers rooms with updated Sandals Montego Bayinteriors, with lighter colors and woods to truly bring the beautiful ocean waters inside.  Our room was a beachfront grande luxe club level junior suite with balcony tranquility soaking tub, and it was just gorgeous!  And that soaking tub on our balcony was a wonderful place to relax after a full day in the sun!

There are 12 dining options at Sandals Montego Bay, so you’ll never be at a loss for what to have for dinner!  You must try Butch’s Steak & Seafood while you’re there, which is named for Sandals’ founder, Gordon “Butch” Stewart.  We had the surf & turf for our dinner, and the tender steak and lobster was amazing!  And it’s all included!  There are never any upcharges for any of the restaurants at a Sandals resort!  For a more casual dinner, be sure to try Tokyo Jo’s for a fabulous Asian meal, or head to Soy for some of the best sushi you’ll ever have!

As with all Sandals and Beaches resorts, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy during the day.  From scuba diving and snorkeling daily to waterskiing and kayaking, you can enjoy it all!  If you want to dive or snorkel, you will want to sign up for those trips when you first arrive, since they can fill up.  And Sandals will ask certified divers to take a refresher course if you haven’t been diving in the past two years, just to make sure you’re ready to go.  Other than that, all diving and equipment is included in your vacation.  My husband went diving every day and was very impressed with all of the sea life that he saw, including eels, crab and an eagle ray!

Sandals offers nightly entertainment for your enjoyment.  From Caribbean night, to the beach party to the white night party with a chocolate buffet, you will definitely have something fun to do!

When you’re ready to relax, you have one of the most beautiful beaches in Jamaica to enjoy.  There are plenty of beach chairs and shade for everyone, or you can relax in a hammock at the overwater Latitudes bar!  This bar is a favorite spot for guests, and we loved hanging out over the water with some amazing cocktails.  Be sure to ask for a dirty banana!  It’s sort of a grown-up milkshake, but it’s delicious!!

One of the best perks of staying at Sandals Montego Bay is that you can take a shuttle to visit Sandals Royal Caribbean too, which is just minutes away.  So really you have the benefit of two resorts when you stay at one!  Sandals Royal Caribbean is another beautiful resort with its own private island, so you’ll definitely want to take some time to experience it too.

This resort is just minutes from the Sangster Montego Bay airport, so it’s ideal for shorter visits to Jamaica.  You will hear the planes take off since you’re so close, but it honestly was not a drawback at all.  In fact, you’ll see the Sandals staff wave as planes go by!  I would definitely recommend this resort to those that want a luxurious resort to get away and reconnect with the one you love.
