Sandals Grande Antigua is a fabulous resort to visit to celebrate a special event with the one you love.  My husband and I celebrated our 30th anniversary at this beautiful location.  This resort is consistently rated as “the world’s most romantic resort”, and I can see why!

This resort gives you the sensation of a quaint Caribbean Beachfront Grove with lush, tropical gardens highlighted by Mediterranean inspired elements nestled against a powdery white-sand beach. There are two villages in Sandals Grande Antigua, the Caribbean and Mediterranean villages.  The Caribbean village gives a little more of that traditional Caribbean feel, with cottages and buildings with one or two stories.  The rondovals are also in the Caribbean village, with private pools for the ultimate in privacy!  The Mediterranean village gives you more of a high-rise feel, with suites overlooking the main pool.  The views here are just amazing!  Both villages offer luxury, club level and butler level rooms, so you can choose which village appeals to you more.  We were in the Caribbean village, but our room was really in a central location.  We were minutes away from the main lobby in the Caribbean village and the main pool in the Mediterranean village.

There are twelve dining options at Sandals Grande Antigua!  Right now, reservations are required at all the sit-down restaurants, except for the Bayside restaurant and the Soy sushi restaurant.  We were able to get reservations for everything we wanted without any issues.  The Sandals staff took great care of us!  We loved Soy!  It’s always one of my favorites at Sandals, and this one did not disappoint.  They even had my favorite champagne lobster roll!  I told my husband to get his own because I was not sharing!  We ate lunch most days near the main pool, either having Bella Napoli pizza or Barefoot by the Sea, but you just need to try a hot dog at the Doggie’s cart too!  My favorite dinner was either at Barefoot by the Sea or Eleanor’s.  Both had great seafood!

We enjoyed the evening activities most nights we were there.  The staffreally tried to get guests involved in the singing and dancing, which was fun.  We also participated in a few of the pool games, which were fun.  I even won the Sandals trivia contest!  (don’t tell, I had a bit of an advantage because I’ve been to so many of the resorts!). And my husband really enjoyed playing pool volleyball every afternoon.  I cheered him on from my lounge chair or a seat at the swim-up bar!  He also went scuba diving most mornings, and said the diving was good—probably not the best he has done, but definitely good diving and sea life.  And the Sandals dive staff always does a great job taking care of their guests!  We were supposed to go snorkeling on our last day, but the weather didn’t cooperate.  So be sure to schedule your snorkel trip early to avoid missing out!

The beach at Sandals Grande Antigua was just gorgeous, with beautiful white sand!  All the beaches in Antigua are public beaches, so there were vendors on the beach trying to sell you things.  They were very polite and didn’t persist when you said no, but there were just a lot of vendors.  We ended up spending much more time at the pool than at the beach because of this.  We had a great system where my husband would go out and save us pool chairs on his way to the dive boat, and then I would come out a bit later after I had breakfast to enjoy!

One of the things I liked best about this resort is that the guests were so nice and friendly.  We seemed to see the same people at the pool each day, so we made some wonderful friends during our stay.  That and our gorgeous room, the wonderful staff made this a wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary.  If you would like to experience this beautiful resort, your Wishes & Dreams Travel Consultant can definitely help you find a little romance for your visit too!
